Palm Desert

Discover the Heart of Coachella Valley

Palm Desert, California, located in the heart of the Coachella Valley, is a vibrant city known for its shopping, entertainment, and outdoor activities. Visitors can explore the famous El Paseo Shopping District, often referred to as the “Rodeo Drive of the Desert,” featuring upscale shops, art galleries, and fine dining. The city also offers the McCallum Theatre, a state-of-the-art performance venue hosting Broadway shows and top entertainers, and the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens, where you can experience desert wildlife up close and even feed giraffes

How I See It as a Big Rig RVer

It’s challenging to fully understand an RV park or campground just from reading Google reviews, as they can often be unclear or incomplete. That’s why our site relies on firsthand experiences from an experienced RVer who tells it like it is, to provide you with honest and detailed insights into each park or campground.

Emerald Desert RV Resort

From an aesthetic standpoint, this park is quite beautiful. The trees are plentiful, the grass is green, and many of the sites (not all) have a little space around them. The pricing tier you decide on will determine where you stay, but overall, a pretty nice park. On the down side, if you just want to pull through and not unhook your tow car, that’s not going to happen here. And, there’s a fair amount of freeway noise and occasional train noise. They do offer a lot of activities, and the pool area is nice. Advance booking is recommended for winter guests.

Cathedral Palms RV Resort

If your rig is 30’ or less, you’ll be fine here. Any bigger and things tighten up quickly. This former KOA is now in the heart of the city, and isn’t bad if you don’t mind backing in. Nice pool. Nice hosts. Just not ideal for bigger rigs.

Outdoor Resort Palm Springs

Similar in concept to the Outdoor Resort in Indio, but scaled back both in size and expectations. No, you don’t have to have a million dollar rig to fit in, but at the same time, if you feel the need to ask the price, you should probably keep looking. More suited for long-term stays, and more suited for folks that don’t require large sites. Some have complained that it takes a while to be accepted here – but be patient and nice and you’ll soon find you’re in good company.

Sky Valley Resort

About 30 minutes away

Hold on to the term “RV Park” very loosely – because it’s not really an RV Park. Sure, they have spaces to rent to RVs, but this is primarily a mobile home park. There are a handful of nicer RV sites, but chances are that they will try to sell you on a much less than nice site and hope you don’t complain. It’s not a bad park – don’t get me wrong – just not a true RV park. The pools, hot springs and people were nice – and probably worth consideration.

Joshua Tree Lake RV and Campground

About an hour away

While not the Ritz-Carleton of RV Parks... and maybe not even the Best Western... it’s not all bad for beginners to people just wanted to get away for a bit. You won’t find a pool, but other very basic amenities are available. If you like quiet and remote, this isn’t a bad choice. Oh, and the Lake part? Perhaps Joshua Tree Pond and Campground might be a little more accurate.
